Quality of Life - The Face of our Changing Community

With more than 3.5 million citizens, Central Florida’s seven-county region ranks among the nations fastest growing populations. From a strong influx of international residents, to the exploding growth rate of our Hispanic neighbors, our diverse environment embraces all ages, races, and geographies. However, variations among demographics and jurisdictional boundaries have divided important community resources such as healthcare, public transportation, affordable housing, and social services.

While people in all communities require access to benefits, services readily available in one county may be limited or nonexistent in another. To remain globally competitive in the 21st century, we must find ways to diversify Central Florida’s economy while ensuring that every resident remains healthy, safe, and cared for.

Imagine a vibrant community overflowing with opportunities to work and to play, residents renowned for their health and fitness regimes, and unprecedented cooperation among healthcare organizations. It’s possible – thanks to Central Florida leaders. By creating a collective vision for our quality of life, we’re building a new future for Central Floridians and ensuring a diverse culture filled with economic opportunities.

In cooperation with the Florida Health Care Alliance, the Community Foundation of Central Florida, and others, myregion is partnering with community leaders to create programs that foster regional cooperation.

Collectively we are working to:
• Build a seven-county social services council to identify and support community needs
• Develop regional resources to support a coordinated approach to legislation, funding, and communication
• Cause healthcare reform by examining key issues surrounding medical training, patient safety, insurance and liability, and community health
• Strengthen the region’s identity through community development and revitalization projects

Nurturing Our Culture

Cinderella’s castle, Daytona International Speedway, Kennedy Space Center – these are a few of the global icons that make Central Florida famous. Yet beneath the surface of our region’s thriving tourism industry are hidden treasures yet to be discovered. The community’s arts, heritage, environment, historic sites, sports, and entertainment offer countless chances for recreation and expansion, but limited communication among organizations reduces the opportunity for development. To remain competitive in the 21st century, we must create unique ways to promote and link the region’s cultural assets to strengthen our sense of community and global identity.

Imagine a thriving economy driven by diversity, a vibrant region overflowing with art and entertainment, and an environment where everyone feels included. It’s possible – thanks to Central Florida leaders. By creating a collective vision for the region’s culture, we’re creating new opportunities for our economy, while improving the quality of life for Central Floridians.

Led by the Community Foundation of Central Florida, United Arts, and others, myregion is collaborating with community leaders to foster partnerships that promote cultural expansion. Together we’re building a seven-county planning committee to unite related organizations and to capitalize on available opportunities.

Other goals of the committee include:
• Strengthening the region’s identity through community development and revitalization projects
• Exploring development and initiation of collaborative funding and advocacy to market the region’s arts, heritage, sports, and entertainment
• Developing cooperative, branded marketing campaigns
based on existing data and targeted, commissioned marketing research
• Enhancing the aesthetic beauty of local communities
• Creating regional benchmarks to measure, integrate, and document advancements in the arts, heritage, sports, and entertainment industries

By working together, we can create an inclusive and welcoming environment while securing our community’s place in the global economy. In doing so, the region will prosper, along with all of us who call Central Florida home.

Quality of Life

This is why myregion exists. Quality of Life is why thousands of Central Floridians have spent more than five years studying our community and the systems that make it work. The goal is to raise the quality of life in Central Florida today and for generations to come.

But what is quality of life? How do you measure it, and how do you make it better? myregion participants and project leaders identified three regional systems that impact our quality of life, each with specific opportunities for improvement. They are:

- Cultural Identity

- Healthcare

- Demographics and Diversity
